Beware below for it lies in the deep
Sea monsters are cool, and none more so that the legendary Kraken. Often depicted as a giant slavering octopus or squid that would hide deep below the waves and then rise up to pull unwary ships down into the deep where it devoured sailors and pirates alike. But for all the stories and myths surrounding the Kraken, there may actually be some truth in the terror given that giant squid sometimes do was up upon the shores – and they are pretty amazing looking! Eyes as big as basket balls and tentacles longer than a telephone pole! It is also said that during the 1930s giant squid attacked ships at sea on no less than three occasions!
The Kraken was also often said to be mistaken for an Island, and when ships tried to make landfall there they would be sucked down into the wake of the monster as it dove below the waves, taking the ship down with it.
The great monster is often depicted as having many tentacles, razor sharp teeth and a fierce demeanour – as any good sea monster should have!
