The city was full of ner do wells and it was giving Miss Blimey a dark feeling. The sun had disappeared over two hours ago now and what was obviously a vicious full moon was rising. Not a pleasant, happy moon man night was this to be but an angry, possibly grumpy moon was out and that spelt trouble with a capital 'B' for badness. Miss Blimey hung back and waited in the shadows of a nearby doorway for Betty hates Veronica to emerge with their cargo. Normally she would have made the pick up herself but some instinct told her she should be the one to wait outside in the nightly cold in case of danger. Betty hates Veronica was unaware of any of this of course, and simply thought Miss Blimey was giving her more responsibility. Partly this was true as Miss Blimey would trust no other than her with their pirately business, still Miss Blimey liked to make her deals in person.

The minutes ticked by and still Betty hates Veronica remained in the run down old villa across the road. Miss Blimey wasn't worried yet but she could feel the adrenalin starting to flow as her mind began to wander over thoughts of what could possibly be going on inside the old house. Out of the whirlwind of 'what ifs' streaming through her head Miss Blimey suddenly smiled to herself as she pondered for the first time if this was how Betty H.V must feel as she waited for her to return on such occasions. An icy wind struck up suddenly from down the street and wrapped its cold tentacles around the fallen leaves hurling them brutally at Miss Blimey and anything else in their path.

"Damn these autumn towns" muttered Miss Blimey to herself and roughly kicked the leaves away that had pooled around her feet. Sighing to herself she looked up at the fat yellow fullness of the moon and the brightness stung her eyes. Something wasn't right though she couldn't put her finger on what it was, and where was Betty H.V? this was taking way too long now. A short distance away a dog howled. No hang on a minute, thought Miss Blimey, that's a wolf not a dog and it's coming from the villa! In a moment she was moving, cutlass drawn, towards the villa door. A warm light was seeping out from under the door making the house seem safe and inviting. Too inviting. Miss Blimey felt the panic rising in her heart as she kicked in the door and bolted up the winding staircase. As she got to the top her way was blocked by a scratched-up wooden door. A great growling could be heard from inside and was followed quickly by another long howl. Miss Blimey smashed herself against the door with all her strength and dive rolled into the room, within a mere second she was on her feet facing a strange scene indeed. Betty hates Veronica was standing on a table against the far wall, sword drawn and sizing up her opposition, who had all now turned to face Miss Blimey. Three large werewolves looked sullenly at Miss Blimey, one with a nasty cut on his left cheek.

"What is going on here?!" demanded Miss Blimey.

Betty hates Veronica saw her opportunity and jumped down from the table, a moment later saw her standing next to Miss Blimey.

"I think there's been a bit of a mix up," replied one of the werewolves gruffly, for that is how werewolves speak, with gruff.

"You better tell me why or you are all for it, what sort of business do you call this? Threatening my first mate by table top?"

The three werewolves knew they were in deep stoom now, but it had never been their intention to hurt Betty H.V or so they went on quickly to explain.

"Well obviously this wasn't supposed to happen for a start. I mean we aren't werewolves all the time, only when there's a full moon, and we got the dates on our calendar mixed up and honestly thought the full moon started tomorrow night, we never intended to hurt your colleague there but our gradual transformation during the course of our transaction seemed to have given her quite a start, and as you can tell it is rather hard for us to talk in this form so trying to calm her and explain wasn't going to well at all, and that's where you came in" justified the werewolf, though with his gruffness, and including some odd paw gestures, the actual explanation took about five minutes and I have simply summarised it here for you.

"Oh, I see," laughed Miss Blimey.

"Don't you laugh! You should have seen what I had to! Would have freaked you right out too!" exclaimed Betty hates Veronica indignantly, defending herself.

"I'm sure," said Miss Blimey. "But we still have to get this deal finished and get out of here, if you gents don't mind?"

"Of course, glad of it," gruffed a werewolf.

"Sorry about your cheek," Betty H.V said, and truly she was sorry for it as it was a nasty wound.

"Don't worry Betty H.V, I'll sort that out before we go," smiled Miss Blimey kindly.

A short while later, with the werewolves face stitched up and their cargo loaded on the Raven the two pirate lasses set sail out of the harbour.

"Just another night on dry land eh?" observed Miss Blimey.

"Yeah, who needs it?!" replied Betty hates Veronica and they both laughed into the face of that grumpy old full moon.

The End
