Miss Blimey was of course the first to regain her composure and stepped down from the carrige, walking slowly towards Sassy. The girl she saw in front of her was a cute little cowgirl, complete with six-guns and a polkadot scarf tied around her neck. Miss Blimey wasn't fooled by this sweet looking gal though, and casually placed her hand over the hilt of her cutlass.
"We're looking for Sassy Calamity," stated Miss Blimey calmly.
"Are you just?" asked the sassy Miss Sassy.
"Well I wouldn't have said so otherwise," replied Miss Blimey, sassing back.
"I'd say you've found her then," countered Sassy. "Now what do you want coming out here? it's dangerous, I could have shot you."
"Darling Sassy," said the Reverend at last stepping forward. "I knew your father, he gave me something to pass on to you."
"Did he? That low-life, he left me out here alone when I was ten years old, can you believe it? I had to live in the damn orphanage until I was 17, do you know what that's like? Then I took over the Rubyblush and I've been dealing with those town idiots for the remainder of my time here, what could he possibly have left for me that I could do without?" stated Sassy, breaking down and sobbing.
The Reverend moved forward and hugged her, trying to calm this poor girl who it seemed had been suffering for her Calamity name sake for long enough.
"This will help you," said the Reverend handing over the medallion.
"How?" asked Sassy.
"It is the key to your legacy, you are the only heir to the Calamity plunder, your father wasn't simple a cowboy, he was also a pirate and now you are quite wealthy it seems," smiled the Reverend.
"But you will have to leave the Rubyblush," said Miss Blimey looking up from her thoughts. "This legacy will also put you in danger until you can leave this place, many people will be coming here very soon, me thinks, as a great deal of interest was taken in our coming to the tavern."
Sassy sighed. Somehow she knew this day would come, when her father would again disrupt her life and send her down an unknown path.
"Look," said Miss Blimey, pointing towards the direction of the town, which was clouded in a haze of dust. "Trouble heading this way".
"What do I do? I can't fight them all," cried Sassy.
"Ha!" laughed Miss Blimey joyously. "Leave them to me! And then you must come with us, you'll never be safe here."
"Here we go," stated Betty H.V, though she was smiling and clearly in the mood for a skirmish.
Within minutes the riffraff of the town had arrived at the Rubyblush, their leader the bruised barman, jumped down from his horse and demanded Sassy hand over the Calamity medallion. Before she could answer Miss Blimey stepped between them.
"Remember me barman? You do not want to cross swords with us, mark my words," she assured him.
"Little girl, strumpet that you are, you caught me quite by surprise at the tavern, but I be ready now and will take you where you stand quite easily," he returned.
"Not likely," laughed Betty H.V and the battle began. The barman of course was the first to fall, the other marauders were not long behind him. Soon the dust of the Rubyblush was as red as it's namesake.
Sassy and the Reverend had watched on in awe at this display, Sassy unable to comprehend the annihilation of the menfolk by the two girls, and the Reverend just marvelling at his friend's skill. Miss Blimey and Betty H.V strolled casually over to where the two sat on the fence and helped them both down.
"Where to now?" asked Sassy, looking over her shoulder at the Rubyblush Ranch for what would be the last time.
"Back to my ship, the Raven, and then I think you should stay with the Rev for a while. You'll be safe on his island and he can tell you much about your past, which will help you make sense of all this in time," said Miss Blimey.
"A fine idea," added the Reverend. "And we shall have coconut tea, and you can meet the children of my island, they will love you instantly and long to hear your tales of adventure."
"Sounds.... different," smiled Sassy, and they all piled back aboard the dead barman's coach to head back to the harbour, the Raven and a well earned drink!
The End
