Two days later the Raven coasted into the port of Jernwain, and whilst it was not an uncommon sight for a pirate ship to drop anchor at this particular harbour, it was not looked upon favourably either. Miss Blimey felt a wave of unease wash over her as she looked towards the main town. Oh yes, they would find trouble here, no doubt. Betty H.V jumped onto the dock and tied the Raven to the mooring post, she was soon joined by the Reverend and Miss Blimey.
"Ready to go Rev?" asked Miss Blimey.
"Always," laughed the Reverend, knowing that with his two friends beside him he could accomplish anything.
The trio set off into town and headed for the Ranger, a well known tavern and, Miss Blimey thought, the best place to ask questions. Once inside the rustic bar, Betty H.V grabbed a table with Miss Blimey and left the Reverend to go about making his enquiries. It didn't take long for the mood to sour and Miss Blimey could see the Reverend was in deep stoom, the barman had him by the lapels of his robe and was trying to grab the Calamity medallion from the Reverend's tightly closed fist. Miss Blimey was over there like a shot and soon turned the tables on the barman, pressing him back against the wall with her cutlass at his throat.
"Just what do you think you are doing to my friend here?" demanded Miss Blimey.
"Um... nothing Miss...just helping him fix his robe up nice," stuttered the barman.
"A likely tale you swine! Now answer the Rev's question before I make your body start writing postcards to your head," countered Miss Blimey through clenched teeth.
"Right you are Miss," ingratiated the barman. "You'll find Sassy out on the Rubyblush ranch, it's about a mile out of town, you can take my carriage if you wish."
"Damn I hate dry land," muttered Betty H.V at the thought of getting in a cage on wheels, but she also knew they didn't have much choice if they were to see this through.
"See, not hard," said Miss Blimey and back handed the barman across the cheek knocking him to the ground. "Let's go," she said to Betty H.V and Reverend Farquar turning on her heel and storming out into the street. She needed to clear her head. It wasn't over yet and Miss Blimey didn't like the way the other patron's in the bar had been eavesdropping on their conversation.
The barman's coach was standing to the side of the tavern, teamed with two horses ready to go. The Reverend, who had had experience driving land contraptions, jumped up the front and grabbed the reins. Miss Blimey and Betty hates Veronica climbed begrudgingly inside the carriage and the Reverend took off. The horses were fresh and full of joy to be out doing something for a change rather than sitting pretty beside the tavern all day and the Reverned was having trouble keeping them under control. The coach bumped along the dusty road headed for the Rubyblush Ranch.
By the time they reached the Ranch the sun was setting, and as they pulled up a beautiful orange glow had settled on all around them, everything seemed so sleepy and peaceful so when the shot rang out it caught them all quite by surprise.
"Blimey!" yelled Miss Blimey.
"Jeepers!" yelled Betty H.V.
"My word!" exclaimed the Reverend.
"What do you want?!" demanded Sassy, appearing seemingly out of nowhere.
